Adapting to Change
Our Mission
We commit to safeguarding coastal communities by enhancing climate resilience and developing solutions to impending challenges such as sea level rise and increased flooding.

Who We Are

Committed to fostering collaboration and innovation in climate action, Monterey Bay Climate Adaptation Action Network (MBCAAN) brings together diverse stakeholders to address the urgent challenges of climate change. With a focus on community resilience and sustainability, MBCAAN will ensure broad and inclusive participation of local and regional government agencies, researchers, non-government organizations, and other stakeholders, with meaningful engagement of disadvantaged communities and of Tribes. Through advocacy, education, and partnerships, we strive to create a more resilient and sustainable future for all.
Our Initiatives
Regional Collaboration
We cultivate regional collaboration between NGO's, institutions, tribes, and the government for climate resilience.

Fire Risk Reduction
We create comprehensive resilience plans to mitigate the impact of flooding and wildfires.

Flood Prevention
We facilitate dialogue among community members to address climate issues collaboratively.

Workforce Development
We empower individuals through training programs focused on climate resilience careers.

Our Vision
We envision the Monterey Bay region over the next 100+ years with thriving natural resources, resilient community infrastructure, ample access to coastal parks and open space, and a flourishing economy. We envision the region having the adaptive capacity necessary to accommodate rising sea levels, storm surges, and flashier river floods, with naturally functioning dune systems, wetlands, and floodplains creating accommodation space to reduce risk to coastal communities. We envision coastal forests as healthy, well-managed, and more resilient to high-severity wildfires. We envision our communities having the local knowledge, skills, and workforce necessary to build resilient infrastructure and improve adaptive capacity for future climate hazards. We envision our local governments, Tribes, organizations, academic institutions, and community members working collectively, equitably, inclusively, and collaboratively towards this unified vision of climate resiliency.
